Blooming Cookies Starts
20th Year in Business

Thriving Company Has New Building,
New Baker, New Web Site

Atlanta, GA (Oct. 6, 2003) - Business is "blooming" for Blooming Cookies is celebrating the start of its 20th year in business in Atlanta. The company kicks off its anniversary year in October with several developments that reinforce its proven methods of customer service.

Entrepreneur Ann King founded the gourmet cookie and gift company in early 1984, when she came up with idea of baking gourmet cookies and attaching them to floral stems with silk leaves. She later began arranging the cookies in whimsical, personalized containers, including a wooden rocking horse, which is the company's biggest seller. Blooming Cookies is now one of the largest FedEx Express shipping accounts in the Atlanta area and delivers its unique gifts to all 50 states.

Recent changes for the company include:

  • A new building - Blooming Cookies purchased a 30,000 square-foot building on Ottley Drive in Atlanta for $1.25 million. The structure, which was already wired to accommodate the company's expanding call center, became the firm's new headquarters in August. "The new building gives us room to grow, and fits the business perfectly," King says.
  • A new baker - Buckhead Bread Company, located next door to the new headquarters, has contracted to bake many of the company's cookies. Its proximity means that cookies can be delivered to many locations within hours of when they come out of the oven. "We strive for high quality products, and Blooming Cookies provides high quality products to their customers," says Buckhead Bread Company Operations Manager Richard Meyer. "It's a pleasure working with them."

  • A new Web site - Through partnerships with designer Hannah Hite as well as Objectware, Inc., it launched an innovative, new Web site on Oct. 1. The site, www.bloomingcookies.com, supports an online ordering system that integrates the gift company's back office operations and adds an extensive inventory management module, accounts receivable integration and an e-mail campaign management tool.
"All of these events help us keep our emphasis on the quality of the product, while maintaining a growth rate that is manageable," King says.

Soon, a new line of best sellers will soon be offered featuring Spanish personalization, as the company continues to extend its brand on a multi-cultural level. The company is also developing a new customer loyalty program expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2004.

An in-house staff of artists and graphic designers has given Blooming Cookies the ability to expand its niche even further. Fast turnaround on original artwork and corporate logos gives corporate customers the ability to promote their business by sending a gift that is not only delicious, but also customized.

All the events coincide the start of the company's 20th year in business in Atlanta. The U.S. Department of Commerce says 96% of businesses started this year will fail before their 10th birthdays. Blooming Cookies has not only survived, but has thrived for twice that long.

King says one key reason for the company's success is its emphasis on one-on-one customer service. Combining a responsive customer service approach with an innovative mix of cookies on stems, gift baskets and seasonal plants, Blooming Cookies is able to retain customers who no longer have to use multiple companies for their gift giving needs.

"The most important thing is to help people express their feelings to others and make them smile at the same time," she concludes.
